Character attributes are among the most important values for any character. They determine behaviour as well as physical characteristics.
Two different areas are considered: physical attributes and mental attributes.
These values are generated from the base-value table of the chosen species plus a roll with a six-sided die (D6), defining the character’s strengths and weaknesses.
The physical values determine stamina, attack values, initiative, hit points and other combat-related values. The mental values determine behaviour, knowledge, magical power and other mental or spiritual characteristics.
When assigning attributes, consider which emphases fit the desired class. Attribute values listed in the class rules are development and suitability targets, not hard character-creation blockers. Whether a class can be chosen at all is determined by the canonical species-class mapping.
Each species has a base-value table that assigns fixed base values to all nine attributes. First, take the base values of the chosen species. Then roll a D6 exactly nine times and assign each result to one of the nine attributes. The rolled values are then added to the respective base values.
Higher rolls can be assigned deliberately to attributes that are especially useful for the character’s intended development.
Later in the game, character attributes can be increased permanently through level-ups and, to a limited extent, through powerful item enchantments.
At each level-up, one attribute is increased by one point. The player may either choose the lowest attribute or determine an attribute with a ten-sided die (D10).
On the D10, results 1 through 9 correspond to the nine attributes in their order on the character sheet. A result of 0 means free choice. If the result points to an attribute that cannot be increased under the applicable caps, determine the result again according to the canonical progression rule.
