The mental values determine behaviour, knowledge, magical power and other mental or spiritual characteristics.
Intelligence | Int
For magically gifted characters of Oldôr, Intelligence is a particularly important value. Spell level 1 is available even with permanent Intelligence below 14. Spell levels 2 through 6 require permanent Intelligence of at least 14. A temporary Intelligence increase does not unlock those spell levels.
Intelligence influences, among other things, magical power or spell points and magical or alchemical skills such as Rune Lore and Alchemy Lore. It also matters when learning spells and recipes and for related Intelligence checks.
More generally, Intelligence also reflects a character’s knowledge. Empathy as well as knowledge of historical events, myths and legends can be connected to it.
Charisma | Cha
Charisma describes a character’s personality traits.
It shows, for example, how authoritative or seductive a character can appear and how effectively they can win others over through particular skill with words.
With high Charisma it is easier to conceal true feelings and thoughts and to maintain composure even in difficult situations.
Characters with good Charisma can also resolve difficult situations through eloquence without resorting to violence.
The Charisma attribute also opens seven additional talents that can play an important role in many events.
Reliability | Rel
Reliability broadly describes the character’s relationship with the people around them.
It can concern reliability towards companions or employers. A character with very high Reliability is usually not easily bribed and remains a loyal companion.
Employers can trust such a character and entrust them with important tasks.
If Reliability is weak, a character is more likely to place personal interests above the group and may abandon it when doing so benefits them.
Reliable companions are essential in a group.
Courage | Cou
The heroes of Oldôr must face many dangerous environments, making Courage an important attribute.
If a character’s Courage is low, fear may seize them when entering dark and mysterious places. Their Reliability towards the group and encouragement from their companions may then also matter.
Courage represents exactly what its name suggests: the character’s bravery. Whether a character stands their ground in dangerous or sinister situations or flees can be determined with a Courage check.
Luck | Lu
Luck is an important attribute, even though players may value it differently during character development. A character who prioritises core attributes may assign Luck a lower value, yet it can still prove extremely useful at a decisive moment.
Available Luck points can be used as bonuses on dice actions. Two Luck points increase another talent value by one point for the duration of a single check. The use must be declared before the roll.
This can be repeated as long as enough Luck points remain. At the start of the next game session, the regular Luck points are available again.
