Knight of Light

Few figures in Oldôr are surrounded by as many legends, or are as noble, impressive, and rare, as the Knight of Light, also called a Paladin. Wherever there is distress, oppression, or some other form of injustice, these noble warriors can be found, having devoted their lives to the service of the good deities. They travel the lands in search of new challenges and deeds that minstrels will recount for years to come.

No one needs to summon them. They appear where help is needed and are often gone again before anyone can thank them. Perhaps this very habit gave rise to the legend that Knights of Light are messengers of the gods.

Canonically, Dwarves, Half-Elves, and Mitmaar Humans can choose the path of the Knight of Light. Filled with idealism, they venture into the world and swear the Paladin’s oath, convinced by their gifts and calling from the good gods never to commit evil and always to oppose injustice. Imbued with the power of their deity, they wander the lands to keep that oath.

Not all are as humble as their sacred code demands. Some Knights of Light become arrogant and call themselves messengers or representatives of the gods in the world. They are often formidable warriors, yet some have forgotten part of their order’s ideals beneath the weight of their reputation.

Others hold the code above all else. They are idealistic, humble, and serve their deity with devotion. They live simply and carry only what they need to survive. Such Paladins can be found throughout the land, helping wherever there is need.

To them it makes no difference whether they escort a wounded traveller to a temple or fight in a battle on which the fate of the world depends. They are excellent fighters, skilled with many weapons, and prefer solid armour for protection on dangerous journeys. Like a Warrior, a Knight of Light will not flee from battle.

According to the code, it is their duty to aid those in distress even at the cost of their own life. They will not resort to deceit or treachery, but fight with head held high, ready to die for the values of good.
